COVID-19 and EasyPZ
As we’re sure you’re aware 2020 has been a bit of a rollercoaster year. We are very excited to be able to open our doors again to guests but inevitably we have had to make some changes to the way the hostel is run this season in order to adhere to UK government covid-19 guidelines and safeguard both our guests and our staff. Rooms have changed, facilities have changed, procedures have changed… but we are still the same cheery hosts ready to make your stay the very best we can!
In order to demonstrate our commitment to the safety of our guests and our staff we have applied for, and been granted, the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ accreditation. This is to confirm that we are following industry standards in keeping our accommodation safe and taking all possible steps to stay Covid secure.
Below we have outlined the changes that you will find at easyPZ Backpackers this season so that our potential guests are aware of this new set up and can book, arrive confident of their safety and ready for a nice, relaxing holiday!
Please remember that we are being led by UK Government guidelines, which are coming out frequently and so shall be making further changes as guidance is published. Please bear with us on this.
As of the 8th August 2020 the UK government has made it a requirement that all guests and staff shall wear masks in all common areas of shared accommodation such as hotels and hostels. Therefore we shall require guests to bring a suitable mask to cover nose and mouth and wear it whilst in any shared area of the hostel (basically anywhere outside of your room and designated bathroom). We know not everyone finds wearing a mask much fun but it is a legal requirement and is there in order to keep everyone safe so we thank you in advance for helping us out with this.
Rooms and bathrooms
The largest change is to our booking system and availability – we can no longer offer shared dorm rooms. We have reduced the number of rooms available in the building to 3 and are now selling all of these as private rooms to solo travellers, couples, families or support bubbles. Our new pricing structure reflects this, please be aware that we are pricing per room instead of per bed. Each room will have either an en-suite or designated bathroom for use by the guests of that room only in order to reduce the risk of spreading germs. This can be seen as a big plus for our guests – no more shared bathrooms means you only have to wait for your travel mates to get out of the shower before you can get in there!
Free breakfast can sadly no longer be included.
This reduction in guest numbers not only minimises the number of people in the building, ensuring safe access to facilities but also makes it much easier to implement adequate social distancing measures in social areas.
Paying for your stay
We are now operating a cashless payment system. Please do not try to pay with any form of cash as we will not accept it. We will only accept cards or Apple Pay.
We have had to make changes to how our facilities are used. To minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and adhere to government guidelines, we have installed hand sanitising stations throughout the hostel. We expect all guests to use these, especially when they enter and leave the building as well as when entering and leaving your room and lounge. For more details on changes to facilities, see below:
Shared kitchen facilities represent a higher risk area. In accordance with the government guidelines, unfortunately, guests will not be able to use the kitchen.
Free tea and coffee will still be available in the lounge between 8-11 AM, but we are sadly unable to provide our usual free breakfast provisions.
We will continue to have our lounge open, but guests have to comply with the rules of social distancing. Detailed guidelines will be given to you on arrival.
We have revised and implemented enhanced cleaning protocols at easyPZ Backpackers. The cleaning products we use all meet UK Government guidance and are effective against enveloped viruses (Covid-19).
Our check-in times remains between 3pm and 10pm although we will require a confirmed and specific time of arrival in advance from all of our guests. If you are feeling unwell, particularly if you are exhibiting any potential Covid-19 symptoms (coughing, high temperature, loss of sense of taste or smell) please do not come to easyPZ Backpackers. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone arriving with these symptoms as a safeguarding measure for our staff and other guests. We are also legally required to be able to provide the following for ALL of our guests:
- Name (photo ID verified)
- Details of next destination
- Working email AND telephone number
This is a legal requirement and anyone unable to provide any of the above will not be able to stay at easyPZ Backpackers so please make sure all guests have their details with them on arrival.
easyPZ Backpackers is housed in an old Victorian town house and so therefore has it’s a fair share of small corridors and cosy shared spaces. We have always tried to avoid excessive use of signs and instructions around the hostel as we believe in common sense, trust and an adult’s ability to function wisely and independently (plus we don’t like to be told what to do all the time either, especially when we’re on holiday!).
When all is said and done the best way for you to keep safe is to regularly wash your hands for 20 seconds, dry them properly, adhere to social distance guidelines and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. It’s a strange time at the moment and we are all finding our feet and doing our best with the ever-changing guidance so please be calm and patient with our staff and your fellow guests so we can maintain the lovely, chilled out Cornish vibes we all enjoy (albeit with a bit of extra scrubbing all round).

All the above measures are designed to keep you and our staff safe: That is our priority. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause; we are led by UK Government guidance and this system is the only way our hostel can work practically, safely and within the COVID guidelines.
We trust you’ll appreciate the reason for all these changes and visit us confident in the knowledge that everything we have done (and will continue to do) at easyPZ Backpackers will continue to make it a safe and enjoyable place to stay.
