1. Getting to Penzance

Penzance is easily accessible by train. The train station is the most southwestern in England. London to Penzance takes about 5 hours, and Bristol to Penzance takes about 4 hours. You can also take the famous and modern sleeper train “The Riviera” from London Paddington to Penzance.

2. Transport in Cornwall

You can easily get around Cornwall with public transport. Most bus services are operated by First Kernow and Transport for Cornwall.

Popular routes:

16, 16A, Penzance to St Ives, via Penzance, Gulval and Nancledra

First Kernow operates several scenic buses along popular routes (double-decker, open-air second floor): Land’s End Coaster, The Tin Coaster and Sunseeker.

3. Costs

You can pay with card or cash on the buses or buy a ticket in advance. You have to buy a train ticket in advance – either online or at the station (please note that some station ticket booths are now closed, and only ticket machines are available). There are discount cards for travel within Cornwall, read more about it on Transport for Cornwalls website.

Getting around Cornwall on buses is becoming cheaper! Single fare and return costs are calculated depending on distance. Child tickets are available for those 18 and under.

A national £2 single fare scheme in the UK will continue to run until 31st December 2024.
